Rustic Owl Baby Shower

I am so excited to share something near and dear to my heart today. This past Saturday, My Aunt, Cousin and I threw my Cousin Jen a very small and intimate shower. We have a big family on my Mom’s side, filled with lots of women! This pregnancy is such a blessing in our family, and beyond exciting for all of us. Jen is expecting TWINS and the best part, she and her hubby are NOT finding out the sex of either baby. So, the creative planning began, with the need for everything to be gender neutral, but avoiding yellow and rubber duckies, we had ourselves a theme. Jen had told me that she was going to create the nursery with an owl theme in mind. So there we had it, Vintage Rustic Owls, the shower now had a theme!

We knew that Jen wanted it small, very intimate and just a day to spend with family. Our guest list, was short and sweet, 12 of our closest family members. I started to plan, and draft up ideas over dinner and a glass of wine with my cousin Jamie {Jen’s Sister}, and my Aunt Kathy {Jen & Jamie’s Mom}. We all were on the same page and couldn’t wait to get started.

{Insert Confession Here: “I Crystal, have an obsession with burlap, mason jars and anything with a rustic vintage theme.”}

I knew I wanted to create something unique, simple, yet appropriate for the occasion, I knew I could put more creative juices into the invites since I only had to create 12 of them.

For the decorations, awww the decorations. We had so much fun collecting “owl-themed,” goodies, rustic items, mason jars and whatever we could to create the ambiance that we wanted. It turned out so special. My Aunt had rented a few tables, chairs, My cousin Jamie worked on the center pieces, I did the favors, and accent decorations, it all came together just perfect!

We had this sign perched in front of the door, first thing our guests saw before walking in

Our Tables, awww the tables, were beautiful. My cousin created the fun center pieces and little pots, we had all white linens, created burlap table runners, and had porcelain dinnerware, the picture with the mason jar and ultrasound pictures was on the fireplace mantel.

{Burlap Table Runners: Burlap Fabric from Joann’s, Mason Jars and Frame: Our Homes, Pots: Joann’s, Centerpiece candle hurricane/wood box: Kohl’s, Candles: Pier One, Moss & Extras: Joann’s}

We framed one of the invitations and placed in on the mantel, hung a rustic owl banner, framed an adorable picture of Jen with little Blake popping his sweet face out from my cousins blog, and found more cute little owls.

We served fresh lemon water in fun glass pictures at each table, we had small mason jars for guests to drink water out of at each table setting

Okay, these puppies were the hit of the shower. I had seen the idea on Pinterest and knew I HAD to make them. I created chalkboard wine glasses, had a chalk paint pen for the guests to write there names on the base and created this fun little poem and put it in a frame

We had a sit down style luncheon. This seriously made the shower feel so intimate and just special! We knew we wanted to serve a 3 course style meal, and serve our family. We had the place settings sitting on the tables, once we asked the guests to have a seat and that lunch would be served, we collected all the plates and served. Our guests were in awe and I think thoroughly enjoyed being served. We started with Salad, then served Finger Sandwiches {Egg Salad on wheat, Chicken Salad on mini croissants, Cucumber and Cream Cheese on white bread} and fruit and topped it off with bundt cakes & ice cream.

The favors… We knew all our guests were women, and family. We wanted to do something fun and cute, useful and girly! We came up with the idea to do little manicure’s in a kraft box! So fun, everyone loved them, and could swap nail polish colors if they chose to.

How perfect are the little tags, “Double the Love,” what better way to honor the twins to be!

These are so super easy to assemble and create. I found the craft boxes here on etsy. I used the 3 x 3 boxes. The Nail Polish we picked from Ulta , it was the most reasonable and they have great colors. The emry owl boards I purchased online through Current Catalog. The mini sponge style nail polish remover can be found at Rite Aid Drugs or CVS Pharmacy. I needed everything in ‘minature’ size so I worked with what I could find for the theme. I put the nail polish, emry board, and remover in the box, once all the goodies were closed up inside I wraped the box with jute twine that can be found at any craft store. We finished them off by stamping simple kraft tags, you can find at the kraft store or on etsy, and added a mini clothespin to keep it secured to the jute. Pretty easy peasy.

I love looking at all these pictures. So fun, so special and so much love filled the room on Saturday. I can’t wait to share Part II with you tomorrow. I hope you are able to get ideas and find inspiration to throw another shower, get ideas, and whatever your creative heart desires.
